I had no luck trying to get the old rear shocks off the Roadmaster on jack stands. I couldn’t even get a damn wrench on the top mounts. I handed the job off to my auto shop teaching buddy. They did the shocks on all for corners, plus they installed a set of helper airbags into the coils. Look at how much height I gained in the rear with those bags pumped up! Hopefully that’s enough height to not rip the tailpipes off the exhaust system now :)
Here’s before picture.
Hopefully the weather cooperates this time, rally cross is scheduled for May 22nd!

So, so sexy! Can’t wait to see photos and/or videos of it in action!

Thanks! I’m pretty excited to go do it.
BmanUltima's car still hasn't been fixed yet, he'll get on it tomorrow, honest.

Are the bags adjustable?

Yeah, there’s an air chuck that we fed to the liner around the gas filler cap. You can get on board compressors and such, but I wasn’t about to spend that kind of money.

So you can adjust it with a shop compressor?

Those bags should keep your shocks healthy too, they don’t enjoy being bottomed out.

You got the delco air shocks?

No, originally it did, but that whole system is shot to hell. I used cheapo KYB shocks, and an airlift set of helper bags that go within the coil springs. Total parts outlay was less than $150 for everything.

The old ones didn’t enjoy being fully extended either. When I popped a brake line in the fall, when I jacked up the car and the axle went to full droop, the rear shocks puked out all their fluid almost instantly.

That’s not good! Isn’t there something other than the shocks that should have been limiting travel?

Nope.

that’s not good if you’re gonna do sweet yumps at the rallycross! I kind of doubt anyone make limiting straps specifically for your car but maybe you could cobble something together for a reasonable fee

Maybe, but I don’t own a trailer, so the Toadmaster needs to be able to make it home. I won’t be going for any air.

You say that now, but just wait till you’re there! The temptation of the ‘yumps will be real...

That is a distinct possibility ...

I’m calling it now, that rear bumper’s a goner.

That wouldn’t be entirely shocking.
The metal that the bumper cover’s top is attached to is completely rusted away. It’s technically still there, but when you touch it, it crumbles.
